From The East Pride Function: Noun Definition: a reasonable or justifiable sense of one's worth or importance (finishing that survival course gave me a real sense of pride and confidence in my abilities); Synonyms: ego, pridefulness, self-esteem, self-regard, self-respect Related Words: confidence, self-assurance, self-confidence; dignity, face, honor, prestige an often unjustified feeling of being pleased with oneself or with one's situation or achievements (so full of pride that they were ripe for a big comedown)
We often ask why we can’t get Brothers to come to lodge. Let’s look at the word pride. When you get a group of men in one room, one thinks things need to be done this way, then another thinks it needs to be done another way. Well, the pride we have as men sometimes causes us not to want to hear that we can’t do it my way. Or, something is said to us in a way that HURTS our pride. And sometimes things are said that should have never been said in the way it was said or around other brothers. At times we do not think when we say something, but we as brothers have to remember that we are here as ones who can best work and best agree. Things will not always go your way or my way.
BUT REMEMBER IT WILL AWAYS BE THE WILL OF THE LODGE that comes out in the end. When pride or feelings are hurt, then you need to talk to that brother and work it out. We sometimes forget that life has put pressure on each and every one of us, like with gas prices being as high as they are, or work pressures where we’re doing the work of two or three, or family life issues. As Masons, we need to respect the feelings of pride our brethren have. |
